Spotlight on Coco

Today my SeaWorld spotlight is on Coco, a five-month-old female southern sea otter. This orphaned pup was only 1-2 days old when rescued in Cayucos, north of Morro Bay, and brought to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

She was treated for an illness and arrived at SeaWorld San Diego for long term care. When she was about 3 months old, this young otter shed her pup coat and learned to groom her new fur coat, with the help of our animal care team. We quickly named her Coco, due to her chocolate brown fur and her sweet disposition. I am lucky enough to be one of the people who get to help take care of her.
