Photo Tips - Yum Yum in My Tum

by Staff

Check out these tips on how to take some awesome photos at Bands, Brew and BBQ this weekend... straight from SeaWorld Orlando's very own Marketing Photographer, Jason Collier!

This weekend I went to SeaWorld Orlando for Bands, Brew and BBQ (free with admission). I really enjoy walking around the festival and trying all the new things to do. Suddenly, my nose was struck by a delicious aroma, BBQ! This year we have multiple vendors offering their special recipes to quench our hunger. So that got me thinking, I want to take a photograph that looks just as good as the food smells.

There are a lot of different techniques to shooting food, so let's start with something everyone can do. Here is your standard oriental menu shot, straight down from the top, nothing terribly impressive, but it gets the job done.

So now let's try to make it look a little better. If you have a point-and-shoot, choose a food setting. Or if you have a DSLR, choose a narrow depth of field.

Now let's change the shooting angle, align yourself at food level and shoot across the dish. This allows you to get closer and gives the food more dimension. I'm getting hungry now, I think it's time to get me some more BBQ!
