How do you give a shark a physical? Very carefully…

by Staff

Twice a year, it's check-up time at SeaWorld Orlando as more than 30 nurse, brown and Pacific reef sharks undergo their annual physicals at the park's Shark Encounter attraction.

After waiting patiently in their aquatic waiting room, the predatory patients are individually measured, weighed and had blood drawn by SeaWorld's team of aquarists and veterinarians.

A team of eight SeaWorld aquarists works together as one to ensure the safety of the sharks and people, donning protective equipment and carefully mapping out every procedure beforehand for each animal.

Once the sharks are given a clean bill of health, they return to their 660,000-gallon home in the Shark Encounter habitat.
