Foodie Friday: Scrumptious, Easy-to-Make Bananas Foster

A chef and some bananas … give me the perfect idea for a celebratory dessert that’s easy to make. Yeah, I want to sink my teeth in a Bananas Foster. Don’t you want to serve up the sweet, flaming, crescent-shaped pulpy fruit at your next holiday party? It’ll be quite the fun, tasty treat.

Here are the sizzling, hot ingredients and instructions you’ll need, provided by an award-winning SeaWorld pastry chef.

  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • cup brown sugar
  • 2 ripe bananas sliced
  • cup rum – Captain Morgan
  • Orange zest
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream

In a wok pan or skillet, melt butter and add the sugar. Bring sauce to a simmer and carefully add the rum. If the sauce is very hot, the alcohol will flame on its own. If not, using stick flame, carefully ignite and continue cooking until flame dies out in approximately 1 to 2 minutes. Add the bananas and orange zest simmer for another 1 to 2 minutes and serve over ice cream.

Mmm, Mmm … if you’re anything like me — a whale of a SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration fan — you can’t wait to savor your homemade Bananas Foster.
