How Aurora Comes to Life
When you see her soaring over the pool at Dolphin Stadium you can’t help but wonder how neat it would be to have that job. Aurora, the spirit of the sea, dazzles audiences at the “Blue Horizons” show each and every day at SeaWorld San Diego. But, what exactly does it take to play the character? What does she do to get ready for the show and what’s it like backstage? Here is a behind-the-scenes look at Aurora from “Blue Horizons.”
Taima
We are saddened to share that Taima, a 20-year-old killer whale at SeaWorld Orlando, died today from complications associated with the birthing process.
"We are very saddened by this loss,” said Dr. Chris Dold, vice president of veterinary services for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. "Although we understand that complications with pregnancy can occur here, just as they do in the wild, the loss of any animal affects all of us at SeaWorld.”
A Message on the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill: From Veterinarian Dr. Chris Dold
As the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico threatens to become one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history, a team of federal and NGO (non-governmental organizations) veterinarians and animal rehabilitation experts have formed an Incident Command Center to respond to Oiled Wildlife Events.
SeaWorld and Busch Gardens remain in close contact with these officials and they are aware of our willingness to assist. At this time, they have not decided how we can best assist the effort.

Animals instinctively know how to stay cool in the blazing hot months - even in scorching temperatures. We humans often complain if our air conditioner breaks down on an 80-degree day. Illegal Wildlife Trade in Vietnam
The illegal wildlife trade represents the greatest threat to wildlife in Vietnam. Recognizing the urgent need for action against this threat, a local conservation group, Education for Nature Vietnam, established its Wildlife Crimes Unit to facilitate public action in reporting crimes and assist government agencies tasked with wildlife protection.
