Susan Flower, Communications Manager, SeaWorld, Aquatica and Discovery Cove

I am the Manager of Communications for SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica and Discovery Cove.  This is my 12th year working at the Orlando parks, and I've handled many media relations functions and openings throughout my career.  In 2000, I helped open Kraken, at the time the only floorless roller coaster in the Southeast.  And only a few months later I was part of the opening team for an all-new park, Discovery Cove.  There have been so many exciting media events, new attractions and overall xx since then, the two latest ventures being the opening of Aquatica, SeaWorld's one-of-a-kind waterpark in 2008, and most recently Manta, SeaWorld's most ambitious attraction to date that combines up close animal encounters with a head-first, face-down flying roller coaster thrill ride in 2009.

I grew up in a northern suburb of Chicago and received a Liberal Arts degree in Speech Communications in 1992 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  I was always told as a child that I liked to talk, talk, talk, and writing was something I always liked to do.  This helped me decide to go into Public Relations because these two skills make up most of what I do as Communications Manager.

While the adjustment to hot Orlando took awhile, meeting so many wonderful people who work at the parks has been amazing and this job is more than a job to me, more like a family.  I've had two babies since I started working here and have grown up with many other folks who have worked here as long as I have.  Living in Central Florida, I couldn't imagine working anywhere else.
