Amanda Gustafson, Education and Conservation Educator

Growing up in the shadow of SeaWorld San Diego where my mother first pushed my stroller and later held my hand, I thought the people who worked at SeaWorld were the luckiest people ever. I was right.

I began at SeaWorld in the Entertainment Department working very closely with  Ernie and Count Von Count (to the point where people couldn’t tell us apart).  I was a freshman in college and as a dancer and actress in high school, I never tired of signing autographs and posing for pictures.

I applied for a position with the Education and Conservation Department in my senior year of high school, in part because my schedule didn’t fit the audition schedule, and because I dreamed of doing more with the animals. I managed to get the job in Education.  It must have been fate. I could not be happier.  Not only have I received incredible training and education, I get the daily opportunity to share what I’ve learned with our guests.  I especially enjoy giving Penguin Presentations and working as a counselor for Day Camp in the summer.

I’m still not sure where life will take me, but so far my journey with SeaWorld has truly been amazing!
