Thank you to all of those who participated in the 3rdAnnual Special Olympics Florida Polar Plunge held this past weekend at Aquatica. Approximately 700 plungers participated to raise $180, 000. In three years, the Polar Plunge has grossed more than $450,000 and for those who were unable to attend but still want to contribute, you can do so for the next week by visiting Special Olympics Florida.
Saturday’s weather was perfect and Aquatica was filled with plungers who took their attire very seriously including those dressed as superheroes, Santa, snowmen and even little pigs. The water in Cutback Cove were chilled to a cool 64 degrees but quickly warmed up by warm-hearted Floridians who were freezin’ for a reason.
All proceeds support Special Olympics Florida, which provides year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities at no cost to the athlete or their caregiver, as a means to achieve physical fitness, self-esteem and life skills necessary to be productive, respected and contributing members of their communities.
Hope to see you next year at the 4th Annual Special Olympics Florida Polar Plunge!
